- How important is skin tone in determining whether a lip colour will suit you or not?
Research has shown that lip colour differs relatively little across skin tones however the range of facial skin tone in women is much larger. Facial skin tone forms the backdrop for the lip colour and the level of contrast between the two is determined by the surrounding skin. A lip colour that is closest to your skin tone can result in a ‘washed out’ look. Whereas shades that are too bright or intense for the skin tone can draw attention to the lips which some women find undesirable. The Colour Collections mini shade ranges increase in shade intensity (Lightness/ Darkness) of colour as the skin tone gets Darker to ensure the level of contrast is maintained for Darker skin tones but is not too Dark for lighter skin tones. Each collection increases on an average of 11% more pigments vs the previous one (ie from Medium from Fair, and from Dark from Medium) to increase the shade intensity.

- So skin tone is more important than hair colour in determining whether a lip colour will suit you or not?
As hair is not directly adjacent to, or does not form the backdrop for the lips, it is not as important as skin tone which is imperative in determining whether a lip colour will suit you. Each collection from Max Factor’s Colour Collections Lipstick has an extensive range of shades specifically designed for Fair, Medium and Dark skin tones so there will be a shade to suit you across the full colour spectrum including pinks, reds, nudes and browns, regardless of your hair colour.
